About Expat Worldwide
Thanks for stopping by.
An expat is someone who makes the decision to live overseas. That takes courage, right? Well, it depends somewhat on the motivations for the big move. I’m Levi Grandt, and after noticing some destructive trends in the way I and my co-workers viewed our shared experience of moving to China, I wanted to help people find a way to move abroad that would truly help them become better people, as it has me.
A decision to move abroad can come from one of two places: Either you’re running toward something, or you’re running away from something. If your decision was made with a flippant attitude toward risk and a general carelessness, then you’ve probably gone about it the wrong way. I came up with the idea of a “noble expat”, one who moves abroad to fulfill a purpose, a need that exists that they are uniquely qualified to fill. I want to help those who move abroad in order to make themselves better people.
Unfortunately, I did not always have this attitude toward my experiences, and it showed in my first year abroad. I was lazy and chased after cheap thrills and pursued only the most expedient opportunities. After learning how to straighten myself out and working full time on improving myself as a person, I began to realize that I am not alone in this regard. I moved abroad because I was running away, and yet there was still so much I could have done to at least be proactive about the decision, but I didn’t want to accept any of the responsibility.
If you’ve considered teaching English overseas, you may need to complete a TEFL course in order to ensure that you bring with you the qualities necessary to truly make a difference, rather than a lackluster attitude toward teaching and a penchant for careless and constant partying and reckless misadventures in a foreign country where perhaps you feel your actions will not come back to you. They will, as I can attest. Having a TEFL certification is the first step to a great adventure, but it also comes with the responsibility to be good at what you do. The demand for certified foreign English teachers is great. I can provide you the guidance you need and lead you through the process through personal experience as you receive your TEFL certificate and go on to receive many job offers. The only question is which one you will accept, and that’s an important decision.
Make the move. Be a certified teacher. Develop yourself professionally and learn how to perfect your art and raise the standard of English teachers all over the world. Be a force for goodness and competence in the world of ESL. Conduct yourself like someone who realizes that their actions and their lack of action has consequences. You are the driver of your own future and will have an influence on many young minds. When you make the decision to teach abroad, do it nobly. Be a noble expat.
